Business innovator John Henry Patterson, founder of the National Cash Register Company, is credited with construction of the first "daylight factory" buildings in 1893. These structures were notable for floor to ceiling glass windows that let in light and could be opened to let in fresh air. This was during an era when sweatshops were still the norm in other regions.
